About the role: As an AFC (Anti-Financial Crime) Operations Intern at Upvest, you’ll be at the forefront of our financial crime defense, playing a hands-on role in safeguarding our platform and our clients. You’ll execute Upvest’s first-line-of-defense (1st LoD) AFC processes day to day, the case work that keeps our brokerage infrastructure clean and compliant. Depending on performance and business needs, the internship may be extended or converted into a full-time position. We’re looking for a reliable, detail-oriented person who understands the basics of KYC/AML and is comfortable managing high-volume operational tasks. What you’ll do: • Conducting PEP and Sanctions screening, researching and dispositioning hits as true matches or false positives, with clear, well-documented rationale. • Performing KYB checks for corporate onboarding. • Carrying out KYC sample checks, transaction monitoring, and managing the resulting follow-ups with our clients. • Executing and maintaining AFC procedures and controls in line with regulatory requirements and internal policy. • Using and helping improve our automation and tooling to make case processing faster and more consistent, for example AI assistants, workflow automation (e.g. n8n), data validation and reporting in the Google Suite (Sheets, Apps Script) and Looker, and basic SQL for querying and cross-checking case data. • Collaborating with the rest of the AFC Ops team and the AML team (2nd LoD) to continuously enhance our AML systems, tools and workflows. What you bring: • A strong analytical mindset, exceptional attention to detail, and a genuine interest in compliance and financial-crime prevention. • A foundational understanding of KYC/AML concepts, gained through your studies, a previous internship or early work experience in a fintech or financial institution. • Early experience in a regulated environment is a plus, but not required. • Comfort with high-volume, repeatable operational tasks and the discipline to keep quality consistent case after case. • Curiosity about automation and the ability to quickly master new tools, systems and data. • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, reliable working style. • A completed Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not essential. • Good communication skills in English.
