- H-1B has no fixed salary bar: the employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role and area. Cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level. US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the country in which the role is being hired. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
Mark43’s mission is to empower communities and their governments with new technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We build powerful, scalable, and elegant software that sets a new standard for the tools upon which our first responders rely. Our users are diverse, and we are therefore committed to embracing diversity of thought and experience within our team.
The Role
Mark43 is hiring its first dedicated Tax Manager to own direct and indirect tax across our U.S., U.K., and Canadian entities. You will be the internal owner of every tax filing, payment, and position the company takes. You will manage our third-party advisors and treat them as an extension of the team, not a substitute for internal ownership. Beyond compliance, we want someone who actively looks for ways to reduce our tax exposure and cash tax cost, and who can build processes that will hold up through audit and IPO readiness.
This role also owns all financial transparency reporting for a significant U.K. public-sector contract governed by the U.K. government’s Open Book Data requirements. Under these requirements, Mark43 must provide the government customer full visibility into the costs, pricing, and margin behind the services it delivers.
What You'll Do
Tax compliance and reporting:
• Own U.S. federal and state income tax compliance in partnership with external advisors, including tax attribute tracking and international reporting for our foreign subsidiaries.
• Own U.S. sales and use tax, including collection and remittance, exemption certificate management for our government agency customers, and nexus monitoring.
• Lead the design and rollout of a multi-state use tax apportionment approach for software purchases to reduce our sales tax cost.
• Own corporation tax, VAT, GST/HST, and statutory filings for our U.K. and Canadian subsidiaries.
• Manage our transfer pricing framework for our cost-plus entities, including intercompany agreements and documentation.
• Prepare or review the quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provision and support the external audit on tax matters.
• Own Open Book Data reporting on a major U.K. public-sector contract, including periodic reporting to the customer, responding to inquiries, and leading any audits.
• Identify opportunities to reduce tax exposure and cash tax cost, and advise leadership on the tax implications of new contracts, jurisdictions, and acquisitions.
• Manage third-party tax advisors and build scalable, well-documented processes and controls.
• Proactively identify opportunities to reduce tax exposure and cash tax cost across all jurisdictions, and bring well-supported recommendations to leadership.
U.K. Open Book Data Reporting
• Own Open Book Data reporting for a major U.K. public-sector contract. This includes maintaining the contract financial model and reconciling actual costs, revenue, and margin to it.
• Prepare and submit periodic Open Book reports to the customer authority within contractual deadlines.
• Act as the primary finance point of contact for the customer's financial inquiries, and lead the response to any audits or reviews exercised under the contract's audit rights.
• Work with the commercial, delivery, and accounting teams to ensure costs are captured and allocated at the level of detail Open Book reporting requires.
What You Bring
• 6+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally including time at a Big 4 or national accounting firm and time in-house at a multinational company.
• CPA (U.S.), CTA or ACA (U.K.), or CPA (Canada), or an equivalent professional qualif
