About the role
Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
The Community You Will Join:
The App Experience & Frameworks team’s mission is to empower product teams at Airbnb to build high-quality experiences by providing the feature foundations and unified app wide product frameworks. The Senior iOS Engineer joining this team will play a critical role in the end-to-end development of new product features across guest and host experiences, driving features from prototypes to production launch in collaboration with cross-functional partners across Design, Product, Marketing, Data Science and partner Engineering teams.
This team is part of the App Foundation organization, focusing on building common solutions for Tech-wide priorities like Performance, Event Logging, App Configuration (AirParam), and builds app-wide features and frameworks including Host Task System, Navigation, and the Early Access Program.
The Difference You Will Make:
• As a Senior iOS Engineer on the App Experience & Frameworks team, you will build features and frameworks that enhance the app experience for millions of guests and hosts. You will work on horizontal product concerns such as app navigation, announcement scheduling, frameworks that power host required actions, and more, to lay the product foundation for bringing a more unified customer experience across platforms.
• Success in this role looks like shipping reliable, scalable, and polished iOS experiences that both bring direct customer delight and enable feature teams to build and experiment faster.
A Typical Day:
• Collaborate closely with cross functional partners in Design and Product to rapidly ideate, prototype, develop, and ship both product features and app wide frameworks.
• Develop prototypes to validate ideas while proactively considering long-term implications on technical design and architecture.
• Translate prototypes to high quality, scalable, and maintainable production code through iterative development.
• Partner with peer engineering teams to integrate new features that impact different areas within the product and continuously optimize frameworks the team owns based on developer feedback.
• Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, accessibility, and globalization issues affecting the iOS app.
Your Expertise:
• 5+ years of building production iOS applications at scale.
• Expertise in Swift, SwiftUI, and UIKit, as well as deep understanding of client architecture and UI performance.
• Experience working with backend and other platform (Android and web) engineers to integrate APIs and keep cross-platform experiences consistent.
• Bias toward action in ambiguous situations, with ability to independently lead projects from start to finish.
• Strong cross-functional partnership skills. Flexible and resilient when scope, designs, and priorities change, treating iterations as a path to better product rather than a setback.
• Attention to detail and a high bar for polish, accessibility, and quality.
• Preferably with prior experience shipping delightful user experiences that include fluid interactions, motion, and graphics.
