About the role
About the Team
DoorDash is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Test Engineer to lead production testing for Dot, our autonomous road-going delivery robot. You will be the directly responsible individual for manufacturing test strategy, equipment, software, and fixturing at our final assembly site. You will also help define test requirements and acceptance criteria for subassembly lines and suppliers in coordination with our Manufacturing Quality team, and work with our Manufacturing Integration Engineer to productionize internal tooling. This is a hands-on role spanning prototype builds through production ramp. You will commission test stations, troubleshoot failures on the line, improve test coverage and yield, and ensure manufacturing processes consistently produce reliable robots. This role requires regular hands-on work in lab and production environments, occasional off-shift support during builds, and travel to supplier and manufacturing locations as needed.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…
• Define the manufacturing test strategy and coverage for Dot components, subassemblies, and final robot assembly.
• Design, procure, build, commission, and sustain test equipment, fixtures, electrical test beds, and production tooling.
• Travel to supplier sites to deploy, audit, and repair test equipment.
• Work with Integration engineers to specify & deploy automated test, calibration, flashing, and data-collection tools.
• Work with Quality engineers to establish test requirements and acceptance criteria for contract manufacturers and component suppliers.
• Partner with design, firmware, systems, quality, and manufacturing teams on Design for Manufacturing and Design for Test improvements.
• Diagnose production failures across hardware, firmware, test software, fixtures, processes, and operator execution.
• Track production test performance, including first-pass yield, false positives, cycle time, capacity, and equipment uptime.
We’re excited about you because…
• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering, or a related field, plus 7+ years of relevant experience
• Hands-on experience delivering and sustaining manufacturing test equipment for complex electromechanical products.
• Experience scaling hardware from prototype builds through production launch and ramp.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with debugging PCBAs, motors, lithium-ion batteries, and wire harnesses.
• Experience managing equipment from requirements and supplier selection through commissioning, qualification, and production support.
• Ability to write or modify test and data-analysis tools using Python, LabVIEW, NI TestStand, C/C++, or similar technologies, including with the use of generative AI.
• Strong program execution and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple builds, suppliers, and technical workstreams.
• Ability to travel 25% of the time to contract manufacturers in Asia, & North America.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience testing robotics, autonomous systems, vehicles, or other safety-critical electromechanical products.
• Experience with CAN, Ethernet, and embedded-device flashing.
• Experience with sensor calibration & test methods, including camera, lidar, and radar.
• Familiarity with production quality tools such as PFMEA, control plans, GR&R, capability analysis, and corrective-action processes.
