Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact.
A Day in the Life
Imagine being at the forefront of medical innovation, where your infrastructure work directly enables life-saving technology. Medtronic is looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer to help build and run the cloud infrastructure behind the Affera Digital Platform, which is transforming cardiac care.
This can be based out of our Newton, MA or Mounds View, MN office with a minimum of 4 days onsite.
In this role, you'll build, operate, and improve the cloud infrastructure that powers the Affera Digital Platform, and keep it running smoothly for the people who depend on it. The platform supports mapper training, clinical management, quality investigation workflows, and R&D. It runs on AWS across multiple regions, orchestrates containerized workloads, serves a modern web frontend, manages a fleet of GPU instances for remote 3D visualization, and handles data ingestion pipelines. You'll ensure the platform is secure, reliable, and compliant with healthcare requirements including comprehensive audit trails.
Primary Responsibilities
Your time will be split roughly evenly between two areas:
• On the reliability side, you'll be a US-based point of contact for the platform: investigating issues as they come up, improving monitoring, alerting, and dashboards, and turning recurring problems into lasting fixes.
• On the infrastructure and developer experience side, you'll evolve our Terraform-based AWS infrastructure along with the CI/CD pipelines, environments, and tooling our engineers use every day, making it faster and safer to ship as more of our development is done alongside AI agents.
• You'll work closely with backend, frontend, and DevOps engineers across the US and Europe, partner with Medtronic security and cloud teams on reviews and compliance, and contribute to architecture decisions around scalability, cost, and security.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience
• Terraform at scale: modular design, state management, multi-environment and multi-region deployments
• AWS (ex: ECS/Fargate, EC2 and Auto Scaling, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront, ALB)
• Observability and troubleshooting experience (ex: CloudWatch or similar, alerting, dashboards, root cause analysis)
• CI/CD (GitLab CI or similar), Docker/ECR, and developer environment tooling
• Experience with cloud security and working through security reviews (ex: VPC networking, IAM, KMS encryption, WAF)
Preferred Qualifications
• Healthcare or regulated-industry compliance (HIPAA, FDA)
• Comfortable reading and writing Python
• GPU EC2 workloads, Packer AMI builds, or remote visualization (e.g. Amazon DCV)
• AWS Batch or data pipeline infrastructure
• FastAPI, Celery, or PostgreSQL
