About the role
About Motorway
Motorway is the UK's largest online car-selling platform. We connect private sellers directly with over 8,000 dealers nationwide. Our online platform helps sellers achieve great prices for their cars while giving dealers fast, reliable access to the stock they want for their dealerships. Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.
This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to join Motorway's Product & Engineering team. Motorway is a UK online car-selling platform connecting private sellers with ~7,500 verified dealers through online auctions. You will own a problem area end to end, in either the seller or the dealer side of the marketplace, and be accountable for the outcomes you deliver.
Building is cheaper than it has ever been. The hard part now is choosing the right thing to build. We want PMs with exceptional product sense who find the problems worth solving, back that judgement with evidence, and use the latest technology to solve them in ways that weren't possible a year ago.
What you will do
Find the problems that matter
• Identify the highest-impact problem areas by combining quantitative analysis with qualitative research, and explain clearly why they matter more than the alternatives
• See through the hundreds of good ideas to the few that will move the business and create real value for sellers and dealers
• Own outcome-based goals and metrics, not feature lists
Build with AI, in your work and in our product
• Use AI to make yourself and your team faster: automate routine PM tasks, analyse data and research quickly, and prototype or vibe code solutions to get customer feedback in days, not weeks
• Ask how each product could be built differently given what AI makes possible, and bring those ideas to your squad
• Make your team 2x more effective, not 2x busier
Deliver with rigour
• Lead a cross-functional squad of engineers, designers and data specialists from discovery through launch and measurement
• Run experiments that produce learning even when they fail, and act on what you learn
• Make clear trade-offs between customer needs, technical constraints and business priorities
Bring people with you
• Communicate the what, the why and the how clearly, through crisp, data-led documents and conversations
• Work with the people closest to you (engineering, design, data) and with execs and other business units such as Operations, Customer Support, Sales and Marketing
• Influence without authority and build alignment on difficult decisions
Requirements
• Proven experience as a product manager, with a track record of shipping products that moved meaningful business metrics, not just delivering features
• Strong product sense. You can show how you found and prioritised the right problem, and what you chose not to do
• Comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative evidence: you run user research and also query data, design experiments and interpret results yourself
• Data-oriented. You use data to understand problems, set goals and measure impact, and can debate approaches with data scientists and analysts
• AI-forward. You use AI tools regularly in your own work and have hands-on experience prototyping or building with them. You have a point of view on where AI helps and where it doesn't
• A clear, confident communicator who can work with engineers and analysts day to day and with senior leaders across the business
• Ability to move between detail and strateg
