The role: The Sanctions Compliance Senior Specialist role will be responsible for performing Level 2 escalation reviews of sanctions-related customer and transaction screening alerts for fiat and cryptocurrency, and determining the appropriate course of action in instances of a potential match. In addition, the AML Sanctions Compliance Senior Specialist will assist with the provision of sanctions-related advice and guidance regarding sanctions laws impacting financial crime investigations across SoFi’s diverse products and services, including by providing guidance to the Level 1 team supporting customer and transaction screening as well as on-chain investigations related to sanctions. The AML Sanctions Compliance Senior Specialist will also assist with the drafting of sanctions compliance policies and procedures, and help execute ad-hoc projects. What you’ll do: • Conduct customer and transaction-related sanctions monitoring activities, ensuring that alert determinations (fiat and cryptocurrency) are appropriate, fully supported, and documented. • Make the final decision on alert/case dispositioning, escalating potential true matches to management, and taking mitigating actions as needed according to procedures • Respond to sanctions-related escalations from various business units or compliance teams, including related to investigations and guidance on sanctions risk and compliance requirements. • Conduct sanctions-related due diligence and investigations to evaluate whether alerts or cases are risk-relevant. • Support the oversight of SoFi’s sanctions screening and reporting program, including identifying list management opportunities and preparing regulatory reporting, as needed. • Monitor sanctions and cryptocurrency regulations, laws and best practices, identify new or changing requirements, and collaborate to ensure ongoing sanctions compliance is implemented. • Support special ad-hoc projects, including the design of escalation paths and strategy, drafting and maintenance of procedures, liaising with cross-functional teams on initiatives, memorializing sanctions-related risk-based decisions, and developing tailored training, as assigned. • Mentor other members of the team on sanctions and crypto-related processes and workflows What you’ll need: • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field. • 3-5 years of Sanctions-related experience within a financial institution or government agency. • Applied and practical experience conducting on-chain sanctions and AML investigations, preferably utilizing blockchain analytics tooling. • Strong working knowledge of OFAC regulatory requirements and experience working with screening tools and relevant technologies. • Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of BSA/AML laws and regulations relative to sanctions, money laundering, and terrorist financing, and the ability to apply this knowledge in assessing transactional activity and sanctions risk exposure to different products and services. • Demonstrated written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of th
