The Team: Global Manufacturing Robotics & Automation helps GM build high-quality vehicles to our customers by combining robotics, automation, controls, manufacturing software, advanced manufacturing, product development, simulation, plant deployment, and program management to improve manufacturing safety, quality, cost, delivery, flexibility, and competitiveness. Our team works to solve plant-critical challenges and develop scalable solutions. Interns will gain hands-on experience solving real manufacturing problems and contributing to innovations that will shape the future of vehicle production. What You’ll Do: As a student in the Global Manufacturing Robotics & Automation organization, you will focus on delivering innovative manufacturing solutions that help support our plants. You will: • Help drive meaningful progress in robotics and automation through hands-on projects and problem-solving. • Foster a forward-thinking work culture that embraces change and navigates future organizational and industry challenges. • Build and nurture strategic relationships across various functions including software, manufacturing, and program management to synergize efforts towards future innovations. Examples of past intern projects include: • Build or improve an autonomous mobile robot capability for material movement, kitting, sequencing, inspection, deployment readiness, and plant support. • Develop and validate controls, vision, PLC, robot, MES, or industrial-network functionality for manufacturing equipment. • Create a data pipeline, dashboard, diagnostic tool, simulation model, or digital application that improves engineering or plant decisions. • Design a test setup, test plan, scenario library, validation method, or performance metric for an autonomous or automated system. Required Qualifications: • Pursuit of a degree at an accredited college or university • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): • Insatiable curiosity and desire to learn • Demonstrated leadership in academic, extracurricular, or project settings • Conceptual understanding and/or experience in any of the following: • Manufacturing processes • Robotics software and autonomous systems • Programming or understanding software logic (e.g., Linux, C++) • Virtual systems, simulation and digital engineering • Ability to work independently and with a team • Effective communication and relationship-building skills • High level of integrity, self-motivation, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
