About the role
Job Description About the role General Motors is seeking a Technical Specialist to provide technical leadership for door modules, window regulator systems and door glass across vehicle programs. This role will guide the development, integration, validation and production readiness of these components, ensuring that designs meet functional, performance, quality, cost, timing and customer expectations. The successful candidate will work across design, manufacturing, safety, quality, purchasing, suppliers and vehicle program teams. The role is ideal for an engineer who can combine deep component expertise with strong systems thinking, practical problem solving and the ability to influence decisions across a complex organization. What You'll Do • Serve as the technical subject-matter expert for door modules, window regulators, door glass and associated interfaces. • Define component and system requirements, engineering specifications, design guidelines and acceptance criteria. • Lead technical reviews of concepts, detailed designs, drawings, GD&T, materials, tolerances and interface definitions. • Develop and manage strategic direction for door modules to enable factor of the future • Ensure robust integration with door structures, hinges, latches, seals, weatherstrip, wiring, electrical controls, body systems and vehicle trim. • Evaluate designs for fit, function, sealing, glass travel, run effort, noise, vibration, harshness, durability, environmental performance and customer usability. • Guide supplier engineering activities, including sourcing assessments, design reviews, development timing, issue resolution and production readiness. • Lead root-cause investigations for functional, dimensional, quality and field issues using structured problem-solving methods. • Coordinate engineering validation plans, test requirements, test execution, data review and approval of results. • Assess design risks and drive mitigation through DFMEA, tolerance analysis, design reviews and validation activities. • Support manufacturing and assembly teams with process reviews, build events, launch activities and containment or corrective-action plans. • Resolve cross-functional issues and communicate technical recommendations, risks, tradeoffs and decisions to program leadership. • Maintain technical documentation, lessons learned, standards, change records and configuration integrity throughout the product lifecycle. • Mentor engineers and contribute to the development of best practices for closure-system components. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) • Minimum 5 years experience • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering • Significant experience in automotive body, closure, door system, window regulator, glass or related component development. • Knowledge of power window, anti-pinch, express-up/down and related mechatronic control functions. • Experience with vehicle door systems, frameless or framed door glass, window regulator mechanisms, door modules, glass run channels or related sealing systems. • Demonstrated experience taking components from concept through design release, validation, launch and production support. • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, GD&T, tolerance stack-up and design for manufacturing and assembly. • Experience with engineering change management, supplier technical reviews and structured problem solving. • Ability to interpret technical drawings, CAD data, test results and manufacturing process information. • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively from working-level teams through senior leadership. • Ability to lead technical decisions in a cross-functional, fast-paced program
