About the role
We are looking for a curious and motivated Product Design Intern to support the design of mobile experiences that help members understand and manage their benefits.
You will work closely with Product Management, Engineering, UX, Research, Content, and other partners. With coaching and feedback, you will contribute to research, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, usability testing, visual design, and design documentation.
This is an opportunity to gain practical experience designing mobile products in a complex benefits and healthcare-related environment. You will contribute to real product work and complete a focused project that can become a meaningful portfolio case study.
What you’ll do
• Learn our members, products, benefits domain, and mobile experience.
• Review existing mobile journeys and identify usability or comprehension opportunities.
• Support customer research, stakeholder interviews, competitive reviews, and usability testing.
• Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs under guidance.
• Explore mobile experiences for iOS and Android while learning relevant platform conventions.
• Help identify important states and edge cases, including loading, empty, error, authentication, and permissions states.
• Participate in design critiques and share work early for feedback.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineers to understand user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
• Support design documentation, reusable patterns, and design-system updates.
• Review implemented designs with the team and help identify opportunities to improve quality.
• Complete a defined mobile design project from problem understanding through recommendation, prototype, testing, or launch support.
• Present your work, decisions, learnings, and next steps to the team.
What you’ll learn
• How product design operates within a cross-functional team.
• How to turn complex member needs into clear mobile experiences.
• How research and usability testing inform design decisions.
• How to design flows, states, and interactions—not just individual screens.
• How mobile designs move from concept to implementation.
• How accessibility, privacy, trust, and clarity affect benefits-related experiences.
• How to communicate design rationale and incorporate feedback.
What we’re looking for
• Currently pursuing a degree in interaction design, UX, product design, graphic design, human-computer interaction, psychology, computer science, or a related field—or equivalent experience.
• A portfolio or work sample showing design thinking. Academic, personal, volunteer, or freelance projects are welcome.
• Familiarity with Figma or a similar design tool.
• Interest in mobile app design and digital products.
• Basic understanding of user flows, wireframing, prototyping, or usability testing.
• Strong curiosity and will
