About the role

Job Description About the Team Compute & Connectivity Hardware (CCH) is part of GM’s Vehicle Software & Electronics Engineering (VSEE) organization within Software & Services Engineering. The team develops the physical hardware foundation for GM’s software-defined vehicles, including compute, connectivity, networking, displays, and other electronic platforms that enable in-vehicle software, infotainment, ADAS, vehicle controls, and connected experiences. CCH’s work spans architecture, requirements, hardware and electronics design, embedded hardware, systems integration, validation, launch, and in-market performance. Our engineers collaborate across software, systems, controls, cybersecurity, functional safety, vehicle engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing to develop reliable, production-ready hardware for GM’s vehicle portfolio. The Role In-vehicle electronics are at the core of the software-defined vehicle, enabling advanced compute platforms, zone and body controllers, high-speed networking, cameras, and connected technologies. We are seeking a skilled Power Electronics Engineer to join GM’s Compute & Connectivity Hardware (CCH) organization and help develop the next generation of automotive electronic control units (ECUs). The Power Center of Excellence is responsible for delivering robust, efficient, and reliable power architectures that enable advanced vehicle functionality. In this role, you will lead the design, development, validation, and integration of power delivery solutions across GM’s ECU portfolio. You will leverage deep power electronics expertise to drive technical excellence, resolve complex challenges, and establish engineering standards that support GM’s electrification and SDV strategies. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop power delivery architectures, including DC-DC converters, switching regulators, and power distribution networks (PDNs) across low-voltage (12V-48V) and high-voltage (400V-800V) domains. • Perform power simulations and analysis for efficiency, load regulation, transient response, thermal performance, and system stability using tools such as SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB, HyperLynx, or Ansys. • Drive power integrity (PI), EMI/EMC, thermal, and reliability optimization throughout the product lifecycle. • Select and qualify power components, including MOSFETs, controllers, inductors, capacitors, and emerging power technologies. • Build, test, and validate power systems using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and thermal imaging tools. • Troubleshoot and resolve complex power-related issues during development, validation, and production. • Develop power design standards, specifications, best practices, and verification methodologies. • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and influence cross-functional hardware architecture decisions. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field. • 5+ years of experience designing power electronics for automotive or high-performance embedded hardware systems. • Experience developing high-voltage automotive circuitry (400V-800V), including propulsion, charging, battery management, or DC-DC power applications. • Expertise with IGBT, SiC, and GaN switching technologies and their associated design considerations. • Strong knowledge of power conversion topologies, power supplies, voltage regulation, and high-current power distribution. • Experience with PCB design, layout optimization, thermal management, and power-aware board architectures. • Proficiency with SPICE, LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB, or similar power simulation tools. • Hands-on experience validating power electronics using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and thermal test equipment. • Deep underst
