About the role
Network Medical Executive
Cigna Healthcare
Based in a region that supports Northeast engagement | Assigned partnership portfolio across markets
Position Summary
The Medical Executive, Provider Engagement & Market Presence is a physician executive based in a region that enables effective support of the Northeast, without requiring Northeast residency. The role strengthens provider relationships and builds purposeful, sustained clinical presence in the Northeast region and other assigned markets. Through coordinated provider engagement, structured listening, and external representation, the role brings provider perspectives into actionable team priorities and advances an approved partnership portfolio.
The role complements regional medical directors through focused provider engagement, partnership work, and shared regional duties as assigned, rather than creating a parallel regional structure. Success depends on transparent communication, coordinated outreach, shared credit, effective follow-through, and respect for regional and functional accountability.
Primary Responsibilities
• Advance an approved portfolio of provider partnerships with clear objectives, executive sponsors, and joint workplans. Recommend opportunities through medical leadership, regional leaders, Network, and Payment Model Innovation as applicable.
• Build executive and clinician relationships within assigned partnerships. Agree one accountable relationship lead and coordinate outreach with regional and functional partners to avoid duplication.
• Build structured market presence through planned provider visits, listening sessions, forums, and external representation coordinated with regional leaders, Network, Communications, and market teams. Capture provider voice, market risks, and relationship opportunities; route insights to accountable teams and close the loop with providers and regional colleagues on actions and outcomes.
• Partner with Payment Model Innovation on clinical model design, provider readiness, and deployment of value-based care initiatives. Payment methodology, financial terms, and functional decisions remain with their accountable teams.
• Coordinate clinical implementation, address barriers through established escalation pathways, and document lessons and handoffs to regional or operational owners.
• Maintain market knowledge of the Northeast region, contribute to shared regional duties as assigned, and provide designated, time-bound regional backup. Agree responsibilities, decision authority, workload priorities, and handoffs with medical leadership and the relevant regional medical director.
• Participate in shared medical director meetings, reporting, planning, training, compliance, and team commitments. Resolve competing priorities with medical leadership before taking on additional work.
• Share information early, seek regional context before engagement, address disagreements through team governance, and recognize collective contributions.
Team-Based Scope & Accountability
Assignments, relationship ownership, decision rights, and transition milestones are agreed with medical leadership and relevant regional and functional partners. Regional medical directors retain primary regional accountability, including provider relationships, routine CAC/JOC coverage, and regional escalations. This role may share regional duties as assigned within an agreed scope, without creating parallel ownership. External representation does not confer market ownership or authority to make commitments outside the approved scope.
The role is accountable for shared partnership progress, coordinated engagement, effective handoffs, and team trust—not visibility or event volume alone. Continued involvement after transition requires an ag
